Is an ebook reader better than a book?

First off, it’s difficult to compare the two. They both present different ways of parlaying information.

Books offer a more sensory experience – you can touch them, turn the pages as you wish, personalise them and inhale their scent. A dusty old book or a crisp new publication can thrill in different ways. While the faint whoosh of a well-thumbed childhood thriller can hit you with nostalgia.

Ebook readers on the other hand, also known as ereaders, don’t offer the same sensory delights. But they do have a host of other benefits in their favour. After all, they bring a touch of modern convenience to a well-loved form of literature. You can store literally hundreds of books (sometimes thousands) on one ereader or memory card, make electronic notes as you read and even get definitions on demand if a word perplexes you, thanks to the built-in dictionaries many of them have. Genius.

With such distinctive benefits, a true lover of books will savour and appreciate the joys of both.
